  • Photo-Representatives was a photo agency founded by the photographers Erika Stone and Anita Beer in 1953. In the male-dominated sector of photojournalism in the 1950s it was very progressive for two women to found a photo agency. The German émigré photographer Erika Stone certainly had good contacts through her work for Leco Photo and European Picture Service and from her time studying at the Photo League and the New School for Social Research.

Very little is known about the agency, which was located close to Grand Central Station and other photo agencies such as Black Star, PIX and Three Lions and near the headquarters of a number of magazines and photo labs like Leco. Among the photographers represented were Weegee (Arthur Fellig) and Ellen Auerbach. Their images were published in magazines like Life and newspapers such as the Daily News.
