  Luis Seoane is an artist mainly known for his murals, paintings and illustrations. Born in Buenos Aires in 1910, the son of Spanish emigrants, he spent his childhood and youth in Galicia, before settling in Buenos Aires in October 1936 after fleeing Franco's military coup.
  While in Spain, Seoane studied law and began working as an illustrator for the political press. He was well integrated into the local milieu and regularly attended gatherings of artists and intellectuals. When his political activities forced him into exile, he chose Buenos Aires, where he had been born and already had friends. Thus, in October 1936, a few months after the start of the Spanish civil war, Seoane arrived in Buenos Aires on board the SS Cap Norte. There, he had no trouble making a place for himself and starting his activities: he founded the Galicia Libre newspaper with Xosé Núñez Búa in 1937 and, in 1939, was appointed editor of Galicia magazine at the Galician Centre in Buenos Aires. Among the work he produced in exile were the Thirteen prints of the betrayal (Trece estampas de la traición). The engravings, printed in Porter Hermanos' print house, focused on the devastation of civil war-stricken Spain.
  Luis Seoane belonged to the artistic circle comprising Horacio Coppola, Grete Stern, Clément Moreau, and Attilio Rossi, among many others. With the photographers Coppola and Stern, he opened a studio for advertising photography in Avenida Córdoba 363, which he closed in 1938 because it was unprofitable. One year later, he began working with the Losada publishing house.
